Fast and Furious – A short review.

25 04 2009

A couple weeks ago, I saw Fast and Furious (will be now referred to as F&F). This is the “true” sequel to the original “The Fast and the Furious” movie that came out in 2001. Unlike the other movies in this series, this one actually had a plot!

F&F brought back the “main” characters from the first movie. Dom, Letty, Brian, and Mia were all there. The story was pretty engaging. After Letty dies trying to go legit, Dom, Brian and Mia proceed to take down the drug cartel that did it. And in doing so, car mayhem ensues! It was an “action movie with cars” rather than a “car movie with action.”

Speaking of cars, the car selection in this flick was pretty diverse. From American Muscle to Importabots, almost all ground was covered. The euro representation was a bit lacking… but there was a BMW 5-Series in one of the main races. I don’t know if the choice of WRX STi was such a good one. If you don’t know what it is, it just looks like an ugly station wagon, but maybe that has to do more with the style direction they went with, rather than the car itself. It was ugly.

If you want to see a movie that’s light on tone, medium on plot, and heavy on cars (with a good smattering of gyrating ladies), this movie is for you.

– Jordana Brewster is still hot.
– Seeing familiar locations from the 1st movie.
– Tying in this movie with both the 1st and 3rd movies.

– What happened to Vince, Leon and Jesse? AKA, the rest of the “crew,” aka the “9-Second Maxima,” “Cops, cops, cops,” and “I have A.D.D.” guys.
– What happened to Roman?
– No awesome/memorable one-liners.
